Design Requirements

The project is a world-class facility for adaptive outdoor sport at the Canmore Nordic Centre (CNC) in Canmore, Alberta. Designed to demonstrate leadership in universal accessibility and inclusive design, the facility aims to meet and exceed the expectations of diverse stakeholders and user groups. It will serve as the home for the year-round programming operations of Rocky Mountain Adaptive (RMA) and significantly enhance its current offerings. The vision for the facility is to create a uniquely accessible environment recognized as a world leader in adaptive sport programming. By integrating best practices in universal design, the facility will not only support the needs of athletes with disabilities but also elevate the profile of the CNC as one of the premier locations worldwide for hosting regional, national, and international para-sport events. The project emphasizes operational excellence, inclusivity, and innovation, establishing a model for future adaptive sport facilities. The proposed location for the facility is on the site of the current upper team room building, directly across from the CNC Day Lodge. All existing tenants of the building will be accommodated with updated team rooms and enhanced access to the new facility, greatly improving the functionality and usability of their spaces. The design ensures seamless integration with the surrounding Nordic Centre infrastructure, providing intuitive circulation, accessible entry points, and shared amenities.
