Mixed Use

Chestermere, Alberta

Design Requirements

This project consists of two six-storey wood-frame residential buildings and a centrally located Golf Club House building, together forming a cohesive residential and recreational development. The residential buildings offer a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units designed to accommodate a range of household types. Unit layouts are carefully oriented to maximize sun exposure, creating comfortable and usable outdoor amenity spaces while enhancing interior daylight. Balconies are designed to provide effective weather protection without compromising access to natural light, supporting year-round use and improving overall livability for residents.

The architectural expression is informed by a Northern European housing aesthetic, emphasizing clarity of form, efficiency, and a light, contemporary character. Simple massing and refined detailing contribute to a balanced composition that feels both modern and approachable. The material palette reinforces this approach through a combination of metal panels, wood-like metal finishes, dark charcoal railings, and selective use of stucco. These materials provide durability and visual contrast while maintaining a cohesive appearance across the development. The Golf Club House building complements the residential components by serving as a shared social and recreational hub, strengthening the relationship between living spaces and outdoor amenities. Together, the buildings are designed to function as an integrated community, where thoughtful orientation, material selection, and architectural character support comfort, efficiency, and a high quality of residential life.
